Stories = Wins

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

At Capstone we believe that stories are what make us successful.  In the past it has been the 3 “B” in church work that equaled success - “butts” “budgets” and “buildings”.  We want life change and impact. Here are few of the comments we have received from people who have been to Capstone’s first two weeks.  This is what it is all about.

One of my New Years Resolutions was for us to start attending church and Capstone makes us feel very comfortable.

We are so excited about Capstone Church! We have been praying that God would lead us to a church that is doing work for His kingdom and not their kingdom! With Capstone, we feel like we have a church family. Everyone there is just so friendly and inviting. It feels like home!

Wow, what a great thing Capstone is doing!  We are so excited to see how the church is going to change our life and what we can do to help the church.  Capstone is everything we have been looking for. We are coming with our hearts wide open.

We have really enjoyed Capstone and plan to continue coming!  Our children love it and getting them to go is not a battle!  I am most impressed in that I walked away with a real understanding of the last two messages.  I can actually remember them!

And they came back…

Launching a new church is a nerve racking journey.  You never know what kind of curveball will be thrown your way. You can only trust that God has called you on this ride, and He will bless it.

The second week of Capstone has come and gone.  Honestly we were blown away by our first week, and were wondering if anyone would come back for the second.  The stats say that usually your second week will only be 50% of what showed up for your launch.  Forget those stats - we just did what God called us to do and we had an great crowd again this week.  We didn’t run out of chairs again - but it was a solid group who came together to worship on Sunday.

The response to Capstone has been outstanding. We have received many comments and emails telling us how excited they are to see a church like Capstone in Fountain Inn.  We look forward to seeing what God has in store for Capstone over the next several months as He waters this new church plant.

January 11th 2008

January 11th 2008

Sunday made it official - we are open for business!  It has a been a roller coaster of organizing, purchasing, rallying, and praying for Capstone to make this Sunday happening.

After our Christmas Service we felt like we had a lot of our family and friends there to support us, so we thought our numbers wouldn’t match our Christmas Service.  Sounds like the faith of Paul right - NOT!  So we just put 100 chairs out thinking that would be plenty. We ended up running out of chairs and it was standing room only.  We also had 60 children 5th grade and under.  CRAZY!  Capstone’s launch had 225 people attending.  God is Good.

Here’s the seen from our launch this past Sunday from TJ Barton’s Black Berry.  Sorry not great quality, but we will have video highlight later this week.

Shout out to the Capstone Plant Team (the families who have been attending Capstone Discovery for these past four months).  God has assembled an awesome team to make Capstone happen.  There is no way we could of pulled this off without these guys. The crowd there had nothing to do with slick marketing or mailers- it was all about relationships with people we knew.  Way to Go.

Thanks for everyone out there who has supported us through resources and prayer!  Thank You for your kingdom vision and wanting to see just not another church, but a movement of God.  One week down - thousands to go!

Bringing Hope through a New Home.

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Capstone has been working on several projects: Christmas Service, Capstone Launch and one we have kept on the down low until now. Below you will read an entry by Betsy Tanner (Walt’s wife) who tells how Capstone brought hope to a family through purchasing them a new home. It was never our intentions to do this, but God opened doors and oppurtunities to make it happen! Our prayer has been to IMPACT our community. We have started with one family - The Franklins.

“Capstone adopted a family for Christmas thinking that we could help provide a great Christmas for a family in our community. We had been praying for this unknown family for months, so we were excited when we finally got their names and information. They have three kids and needed everything from a tree, Christmas meal to presents. We quickly got on to spreading the Christmas cheer only to find out that the mobile home they were living in was not even habitable. No heat, leaky roof, only four working outlets, etc. It was a mess but the mom and dad were trying hard to give their kids a good life.

So, we started asking around, and come to find out, God was mightily at work! Long story short, today we moved their stuff into a “new to them” mobile home. God allowed Capstone to provide a new home for this deserving family. The home may not be what you and I are used to, but it is clean, safe, dry, and warm. We spread God’s hope and learned again that God is at work. He can do so much more through us than we can even imagine if we will only let him. To God be all the glory!”

What makes this so special is that Capstone made this happen, before ever being a “church.”  It reflects our heartbeat and DNA - that we truly believe in what we have talking about for four months. We believe this act of obedence from the family of Capstone has brought a smile to God’s face.  We are excited with what God has in store for Capstone.

Stay tuned for a video of Capstone helping the Franklins move into their new mobile home.
