“Crazy Love” Chapter 2 Video

Crazy Love Ch.2 | Francis Chan from David Pillen on Vimeo.

One of the great things about Francis Chan’s book “Crazy Love” is the interactive videos that are on www.crazylovebook.com. After or Before each chapter Francis encourages the reader to go watch a synopsis of the Chapter. This video was the bases for this past week’s message “Crazy Short.” James tells us in James 4 that we are a vapor. Our lives are Crazy Short, but our God is Eternal.

Head to www.crazylovebook.com to see what will be coming up in the next few weeks at Capstone during our Crazy Love Series.

Best Yet…

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

From Walt’s Blog:

Seven weeks down - 10,540 more to go.  This morning while tearing down and this evening at community groups we heard several people who have been with us from the beginning who said this week was the best Sunday yet.  We are slowly working out kinks and learning how to make every Sunday better.

This week was the second week of our Crazy Love Series.  Today’s title was “Crazy Short.”  We discussed how short our life is and that we are as James says in chapter 3 “… but a vapor.”  Yet most of us live as though we are invincible.  We challenged everyone that even though our lives are like a blink in the eyes of eternity - we must live a life with purpose and meaning.

We ended the message by Chris (executive pastor) telling a story about Johnny Burry.  Johnny was a formed student of Chris’ at Trinity who passed away two years ago after battling Leukemia.  Chris put together an amazing video after he passed away showing his impact on this world and those in his life.  It was a very powerful and meaningful time where we watched a young man who was truely living everyday pointing others to God.

Today might of been the best yet for Capstone, but not the best of what is yet to come.  God has even better days ahead of us.

Community Groups Report

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Tonight we just finished our Student Community Group. This week we started our Capstone Community Groups.  We were very excited to have 4 Groups meet and 1 starting next week. We had 38 people take part in our first week of community groups.

Getting community groups off the ground is another HUGE step forward for Capstone. If you are interested in getting plugged into a community group, head to the capstone website to check out the times and dates of different groups.

Crazy Love Series

Monday, February 16th, 2009

This week Capstone started a new series called “Crazy Love” based on Francis Chan’s book Crazy Love. The idea is that we have an inapproiate view of God and his Love for us.  We all have so many different views of God.  It might be an absentee landlord, or mean old cranky neighbor.  Our views on God affect our lives and worship of Him.  So we have set out on a journey to adjust our view on God who has this Crazy Love for us and our response to that Crazy Love.

This week we looked at how we see God.  In Bruce Almighty God looks like Morgan Freeman.  In pictures we saw growing up He is a little taller than us, with a white beard and big golden throne.  We forget that the God who created the heavens and earth can’t be contained in our images or even our brain.  Our God is Crazy Big.

This Crazy Big God has created this perfect planet to sustain life for one purpose to worship Him.  He created galaxies, neublas, black holes, and stars to give us pictures of His majesty and biggenss.  And the God who created the Whirlpool Galaxy - 30 million light years (1 light year = 5.88 Trillion Miles) from Earth - wants to hold our hand as we walk through life.

“This Crazy Big God has a Crazy Love for us!”

Dunk’d Sunday at Capstone

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

What a great day at Capstone Church! This morning we had 9 members of our family go through the waters of baptism.  It was so awesome to hear the cheers and shouts of joy from the crowd of witnesses that joined us for this celebration.  This outward express of an inward decision is a beautiful picture in the power of being obedient to Christ and His commandments.

Exciting Two Weeks

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

The next couple of weeks are going to be very exciting at Capstone. We have had an action packed first month at Capstone Church. In the month of Febraury we will be adding two more elements to the life of Capstone.

1. Dunk’d Service.
Our Dunk’d Service is our baptism service. Our first Dunk’d Service will be next Sunday (02/08/09). We have 7 people who have decided they wanted to go through believers baptism. Some have made a decision to become a Christ follower last week. While others have believed for years, but never been baptized. This will be our first of hopefully many Dunk’d Services. We are pumped about starting early in creating a culture where we celebrate this outward expression of an inward decision.

2. Community Groups.
February 15th we will begin our Capstone’s Community Group. This past week we started sign ups and had 13 couples sign up to begin to do life together in community groups. We will be starting with three adult groups and one student group.
We look forward to seeing these groups grow and multiply as we begin to go beyond our Sunday morning meetings to meeting in homes and sharing how Christ is working in our lives.

This week we will be posting more on both of these new Elements at Capstone.
